As a big Targa guy I'm ecstatic than they are bringing back the retro top, but something just seems off. I think it's because they tried to hard to keep the 991 roofline instead of flattening it out like classic targas. The top is also supposedly automatic, and I don't know how I feel about that. What's so hard about taking 1 minute to put the roof on or off? It gave going topless a sense of occasion. I guess I'll just have to wait and see the real thing for my final impressions.
Here's a cool video featuring some classic Targas.

Old Targas are my favorite 911s

The proportions are wonky. The first thing I saw looked like the result of Boxter/'78 Vette secks...

Hey Noah,

My old man found a killer deal on a 1970 Porsche 911T. The chassis and body are straight and low-rust. No engine so he won't be able to have matching serials. But he can pick it up the car for about $6000 so it still seems like a good deal. He's researching engines now.

What do you think, should he move forward? If so do you think he should install a 911T engine or find a 911S engine since the serials won't match anyways?

Thanks

Sent me the link or a few pics and i'll look a little more into it.

It all comes down to whether or not you are planning on doing a nut and bolt restoration to concours, or a father son project car restoration to daily driver. Hows the Gearbox, interior etc?

It isn't listed online. A buddy of his has a shop and the car is owned by a customer of his who needs to sell. I'll see if I can get some pics.

He's planning on making it a mid-level restoration. Not concours quality, just setup nicely for his own use. I would help him out if I could, but I'm working too many days a week. I mostly just give him ideas and do research. I was telling him how desirable early 70s 911s are getting after you and I chatted about it. Then he found out about this car and started pursuing it.

I don't know what condition the gearbox is in. He said the interior looks decent. The paint needs to be redone. The original color was Prince Albert Blue.

The good thing is that he won't have to rush the restoration. He takes his time when finding parts to ensure he doesn't overpay. His deadlines are all self-imposed. He collects what he builds and doesn't do it to make a profit.

That color is amazing. Hmmm. Does he want it as a car or an investment.

I thought so too! I didn't know about that color until today.

He is buying it more as a personal car. He loves fixing up cars himself. He will drive it now and then. He drove his '82 911SC to work today for the heck of it.

for 6k i'd say yes. Worry about the engine later. If its in decent condition and all it needs is new paint and an engine, 6k seems good to me

Glad you think that cause he's looking at it now, and he wants to move forward no matter what. I told him to send me pics first but he is too excited and just wants to get it, haha. He's also calling people who have engines for sale.

He's such a car addict. He said there is a 1990 964 roller with no engine or transmission and asked me what I think. I said to focus on the classic one first. He's like a kid in a candy store...

A 964 Carrera RS would be sick. But he's not that lucky, haha
